Granola and Fruit Juice Consumption Increases Hypertension Risk

Health experts warn that many commercial granola products contain high levels of added sugar, fat and calories, which can contribute to elevated blood pressure and weight gain. Cardiologists advise choosing granola with less than 6 g of added sugar per serving, under 200 mg of sodium, and limiting portion size, or preparing it at home to control ingredients.

A recent study links frequent consumption of fruit juice— even 100 % natural varieties—to a higher risk of hypertension in children. The removal of fiber during processing leads to rapid sugar absorption, raising blood pressure over time. Pediatric nutritionists recommend limiting juice intake, favoring whole fruit and water, and treating juice as an occasional beverage rather than a staple.
