Grant Stevens appointed Governor of South Australia

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas has announced that Police Commissioner Grant Stevens will serve as the state’s next Governor. Stevens, who has served as the state’s longest-serving police commissioner since 2015, is scheduled to begin his five-year term on December 9.

Stevens will replace Frances Adamson, who declined to extend her term. During his career in public service, Stevens has been recognized for his leadership in addressing organized crime, terrorism, cybercrime, and domestic violence, as well as his role as state coordinator during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Upon his appointment, Stevens expressed that he is deeply honored and intends to uphold the constitutional responsibilities and impartiality of the office.
