Grapefruit Ranked Among World’s Top Fruits, Widely Consumed in Vietnam

BBC Good Food placed grapefruit at ninth position in its list of the 20 best fruits worldwide, ahead of many exotic varieties. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) also praised the fruit, noting that a half‑size grapefruit (about 120 g) contains only 41 calories while providing roughly 64 % of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C.

In Vietnam, grapefruit is cultivated from north to south with numerous popular varieties such as Diễn, Đoan Hùng, Phúc Trạch, Da Xanh and Năm Roi. The fruit is sold year‑round in local markets at very low prices, and both the flesh and the peel are incorporated into culinary dishes and traditional remedies. Nutrition experts highlight its high vitamin C and beta‑carotene content, soluble fiber that supports weight control and gut health, and pectin that can help lower cholesterol and promote heart health.
