Graphics card and memory markets face significant price volatility

The graphics card and memory markets are experiencing significant volatility and price shifts. A shortage of GDDR7 memory has caused the price of the RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB to surge from its $429 launch price to as high as $800 or even $1,000 on platforms like Newegg. This inflation has widened the price gap between the 8 GB and 16 GB versions of the same GPU, with the 16 GB model now costing significantly more than originally anticipated.

In response to hardware limitations and memory shortages, specialized services are emerging. A workshop in Japan is offering VRAM upgrades for older GeForce cards, such as the RTX 2080 Ti, to make them more viable for AI workloads by increasing memory capacity to 22 GB.

Meanwhile, consumer concerns regarding hardware warranties are rising. Recent reports highlight issues with lifetime warranties for memory kits, where manufacturers may only offer refunds based on original purchase prices. In a market where replacement hardware costs have risen sharply, these refunds may not cover the cost of equivalent modern components.

On the high-end consumer side, new hardware architectures are being detailed. Sony has presented updates to the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) for the PS5 Pro, utilizing an enhanced neural network architecture to improve image reconstruction and stability.
