Grasser Racing Team faces deadline uncertainty for FIA appeal

The Grasser Racing Team is facing uncertainty regarding the legal deadline to appeal the disqualification of Mirko Bortolotti following his victory at Oschersleben. After failing to overturn the disqualification at the DMSB (German Motor Sport Federation) Court of Appeal, the team must decide whether to escalate the matter to the FIA.

Confusion has arisen over whether the seven-day appeal window begins with the oral verdict or the subsequent written judgment. While the FIA framework requires appeals to be lodged within seven days of the “notification of the decision,” the team’s legal representative, Thomas Fleischer, suggests they are waiting for the full written judgment. This interpretation is supported by FIA regulations stating that the time limit for an appeal does not commence until the decision is communicated in full, including its grounds and operative part.
