Grassi Hospital ophthalmology department reports significant growth
The ophthalmology department at Grassi Hospital in Ostia has reported significant growth for 2025. Under the direction of Andrea Niutta, the unit performed 5,600 surgical interventions and provided over 28,000 outpatient services, generating 4.3 million euros in revenue. This amount accounts for nearly one-quarter of the hospital's total 18 million euro turnover.
Surgical activity increased by 15% compared to 2024, with approximately 3,500 interventions already completed since the start of 2026. To maintain this momentum, the department is focusing on technological innovation, professional training, and the integration of young physicians. A key technological advancement includes the implementation of a new 3D visualization system for ophthalmic surgery, which offers improved depth of field, higher magnification, and better ergonomics for surgeons during complex procedures.
