Grateful Dead tribute exhibit opens in San Francisco

A new two-part exhibition titled ‘Forever Grateful’ has opened in San Francisco to celebrate the legacy of the Grateful Dead and the city’s 1960s counterculture movement. The exhibit is hosted by the Haight Street Art Center and features immersive experiences at the County Fair Building in Golden Gate Park.

Central to the display is the ‘Furthur’ bus, a psychedelic vehicle used by author Ken Kesey and his Merry Pranksters during a 1965 cross-country journey. Also on display is a mint-condition BMW previously owned by Grateful Dead frontman Jerry Garcia, which has not been shown to the public before.

The exhibition includes various artifacts such as guitars, photography, and art, alongside interactive elements like liquid light shows and phone booths for visitor storytelling. Part one of the tribute at the Haight Street Art Center runs through September 20, while the experiential portion at Golden Gate Park continues until October 25.
