Grava school safety debate sparks confrontation in Greek Parliament

A heated confrontation occurred in the Greek Parliament regarding safety concerns at the Grava school complex, which has suspended in-person operations due to strong natural gas odors. Deputy Interior Minister Vasilis Spanakis assured lawmakers that technical inspections found no gas leaks within the network and emphasized that safety measures are being strictly followed.

KKE Member of Parliament Aphrodite Ktena challenged these assurances, accusing the government of downplaying the risk. She argued that the issue may lie within the facility's installations rather than the network and criticized the lack of clear certification from companies regarding the safety of the premises. Ktena noted that approximately 4,000 students and 450 teachers are affected by the situation.

The debate escalated into personal attacks, with Ktena accusing the government of ‘playing with the lives of children’ and Spanakis dismissing her claims as misinformation, leading to a sharp verbal exchange between the two officials.
