Grave extension costs vary widely across Dutch provinces

Research by educational institute Laudius.nl reveals significant regional variations in the costs of extending grave rights at municipal cemeteries in the Netherlands.

In the province of Noord-Holland, the average cost for a ten-year extension is approximately €1,958. However, prices vary widely between municipalities, with a difference of over €3,500 between the cheapest and most expensive locations. Amstelveen is the most expensive at €4,475, while Texel is the least expensive at €966.60.

In the province of Drenthe, the average ten-year extension cost is €1,125. The highest costs are found in Assen at €1,984.25, while De Wolden offers the lowest rate at €743.00. The study notes that high costs may force bereaved families into a dilemma between maintaining a permanent memorial site and managing financial burdens.
