Gray, Maine: Police hunt for speeding SUV after I-95 crash
Authorities are searching for a speeding black SUV involved in a crash on Interstate 95 northbound near Gray, Maine. According to Maine State Police, the unidentified vehicle made an unsafe lane change and cut off a 2013 Buick Regal around 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25.
The driver of the Buick, 70-year-old Keith Tinker of Hudson, New Hampshire, swerved to avoid a collision, causing his vehicle to strike a shoulder guardrail. The impact was severe enough that the guardrail punctured the driver's side of the car, trapping Tinker and his daughter inside.
Crews from the Cumberland Fire Department and Gray Fire Rescue used hydraulic tools to remove the vehicle's roof and doors to extricate the occupants. Tinker was transported to Maine Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, while his daughter was evaluated for minor injuries.
The incident caused significant traffic disruptions, reducing the Maine Turnpike to a single northbound lane for over an hour and resulting in backups exceeding 10 miles. The investigation into the unidentified SUV is ongoing.
