Grayscale: AI advancement may drive demand for Zcash privacy

Grayscale has released a research report suggesting that the advancement of artificial intelligence could drive increased demand for financial privacy technologies, specifically highlighting Zcash (ZEC). The firm argues that as AI models become more sophisticated at analyzing vast amounts of on-chain data and combining it with external information, the risk of ‘address labeling’—linking public blockchain wallet addresses to specific individuals or institutions—will rise.

While public blockchains like Bitcoin and Ethereum offer transparency, this openness allows AI to potentially de-anonymize users by correlating transaction patterns with social media, payment records, and exchange data. Zcash utilizes zero-knowledge proof technology to offer shielded transactions, which allow the network to verify transactions without revealing the sender, receiver, or amount.

However, the report notes that privacy is not absolute; metadata, network connection info, and the movement of funds between shielded and transparent addresses can still leave traces. The future growth of such privacy-centric assets remains subject to regulatory scrutiny regarding anti-money laundering measures and the level of exchange support available.
