Grayscale CEO predicts end of crypto winter due to institutional interest

Grayscale CEO Peter Mintzberg has announced that the long-standing ‘crypto winter’ is nearing its end as institutional interest in digital assets rises. In an opinion piece published in Fortune, Mintzberg noted that the current market cycle is significantly different from the downturns seen in 2014, 2018, and 2022, largely due to the active role of institutional investors which has helped limit sharp price declines.

Data cited by Mintzberg indicates that 73% of institutional investors plan to increase their portfolio allocations to digital assets this year. Additionally, 60% of Fortune 500 executives are reportedly working on or have launched blockchain-related projects. This shift suggests an accelerating integration of crypto assets into the traditional financial system.

Factors facilitating this institutional access include the proliferation of spot ETFs, improved custody services, and ongoing efforts to clarify regulatory frameworks. Mintzberg suggests that this influx of corporate capital is helping the cryptocurrency market transition toward a more mature structure compared to previous cycles dominated by individual investors.
