Grayscale identifies Zcash as a potential challenger to Bitcoin

Grayscale Research suggests that Zcash (ZEC) has the potential to capture market share from Bitcoin (BTC) by leveraging structural advantages that Bitcoin lacks. In a recent research report, Grayscale identified three key features that could drive Zcash adoption: financial privacy, enhanced cybersecurity against future quantum threats, and “intents” technology for modern wallets that allows for universal connectivity without requiring widespread merchant adoption.

Grayscale notes that as AI-powered surveillance increases its ability to analyze large-scale data, the demand for transaction privacy may become an operational necessity. While Zcash has seen significant growth, rising nearly 19-fold over the past year, its market capitalization remains less than 1% of Bitcoin’s.

Despite the bullish outlook on Zcash’s “second mover advantages,” Grayscale cautions that Bitcoin’s deep liquidity and entrenched network effects remain formidable barriers. The firm characterizes Zcash as a high-risk investment with potentially volatile returns.
