Graz expands public defibrillator network at Hauptplatz

The city of Graz is expanding its network of publicly accessible defibrillators to improve emergency response times for cardiac arrests. A new device has been installed at the Hauptplatz tram stop, a high-traffic area in the city center.

In collaboration with the advertising company Ankünder, the initiative utilizes digital-out-of-home (DooH) advertising locations to serve dual purposes. These digital screens at the Hauptplatz, Eisernes Tor, Herrengasse, and Landhausgasse act as both advertising platforms and disaster warning systems.

Mayor Elke Kahr highlighted the importance of these devices, noting a recent instance where city hall guards saved a life using a defibrillator. The Red Cross Styria is supporting the initiative by integrating the new location into their emergency dispatch systems to provide first-aid instructions to bystanders.
