Graz maintains public transport subsidies despite budget cuts

The city of Graz has announced measures to maintain affordable public transportation as part of its ongoing budget consolidation process. While the city is implementing savings, officials confirmed that subsidies for the Klimaticket Steiermark will continue, though they have been adjusted.

Residents with a primary residence in Graz will receive a 60 euro subsidy for the Klimaticket. For reduced rates, which apply to youths up to age 26, seniors aged 65 and older, and individuals with a disability degree of at least 70 percent, the subsidy will be 50 euro. Additionally, the SozialCard Mobilität, which costs 70 euro annually for low-income residents and pensioners, will remain available for use across the entire Graz Linien network.

Mayor Elke Kahr and Vice Mayor Judith Schwentner stated that there will be no cuts to bus or tram schedules or frequency. They emphasized that mobility is a basic necessity and essential public service. However, the SPÖ has criticized the coalition government, alleging that the cuts target citizens directly following previous increases in parking fees and reductions in club funding.
