Graz murder: Suspect confesses to killing 24-year-old woman
A 23-year-old man has confessed to the killing of 24-year-old Abigel Laçi in an apartment in central Graz, Austria. According to the Graz Public Prosecutor's Office, the suspect, who is the brother of the victim's partner, has provided a full confession. An autopsy revealed that the victim died from “massive violence against the head.”
Authorities stated that the killing was not an act of impulse, noting a “long-smoldering conflict” between the suspect and the victim. The suspect was arrested in the building's stairwell shortly after the incident on Thursday, September 3. He has since been placed in pre-trial detention.
The incident has sparked significant local reaction, including a planned demonstration at Graz Hauptplatz to protest against violence against women. The local football club, SK Sturm Graz, also issued a statement condemning violence against women.
