OeNB revises Austrian economic outlook with lower growth and inflation forecasts
The Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB) has revised its economic forecasts for Austria, projecting a slight downward adjustment for 2026 GDP growth and inflation.
For 2026, the central bank expects GDP to grow by 0.5%, a decrease from the 0.6% previously forecasted in June. This revision is attributed to lower-than-expected GDP figures from the first half of the year. However, the OeNB anticipates an economic recovery in the following years, forecasting growth of 1.3% in 2027 and 1.2% in 2028.
Inflation projections have also been adjusted. The forecast for 2026 inflation has been lowered to 3.0% from the previous 3.2%. Looking further ahead, the bank expects inflation to drop significantly to 2.3% in 2027 and 2.2% in 2028, driven by a weakening of energy price shocks caused by geopolitical tensions.
