Graz99ers begin ICE Hockey League title defense amid roster changes

The Graz99ers are beginning their title defense in the ICE Hockey League despite facing significant roster changes and budgetary constraints. Following their first historical championship, the team must navigate the departures of key players, including captain Korbinian Holzer, top defender Nick Bailen, and playoff MVP Lukas Haudum.

Coach Dan Lacroix noted that while the defensive line presents a challenge, he views the situation as an opportunity for younger players to step up. The team's preparations have been further complicated by the immediate dismissal of Kilian Zündel following a violation of anti-doping regulations, which may result in a two-year suspension.

Ahead of their season opener against HC Pustertal, the team is also working to rebuild social chemistry after recent performances in the Champions Hockey League.
