Grazalema conducts geotechnical surveys to prevent future flooding
The municipality of Grazalema is conducting final geotechnical surveys to design new drainage infrastructure and manage groundwater risks. These investigations, carried out in collaboration with specialists from the University of Granada, aim to prevent future flooding following extreme weather events.
The measures follow a major emergency in February caused by Storm Leonardo, which brought historic rainfall and forced the complete evacuation of approximately 1,600 residents. The event highlighted risks associated with high saturation levels in the subsoil beneath the town's streets.
Mayor Carlos Javier García stated that these studies are essential to ensure that any future interventions in the public road network are effective and prevent further damage. The data obtained from these probes will assist a multidisciplinary team of architects, engineers, hydrologists, and geophysicists in developing technical projects to protect the urban center.
