Greasezilla opens new regional processing hub in Virginia
Greasezilla, a product of Downey Ridge Environmental Co., has announced the opening of its second regional processing hub in Ashland, Virginia. This facility is part of a planned 30-site national infrastructure expansion intended to alleviate the burden of processing hauled grease-trap waste from municipalities.
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, fats, oils, and grease (FOG) account for 47 percent of reported sewer blockages. While cities often enforce rules to keep FOG out of sewer systems, the infrastructure required to manage and process the waste captured in grease traps has historically lagged behind. Greasezilla’s model involves investing capital to build and operate a national network of regional processing centers, providing haulers with reliable locations to unload material.
The Ashland facility follows a previous hub in Knoxville, Tennessee. The company’s national rollout has a potential infrastructure value exceeding $150 million.
