Great Britain and Ireland win 51st Walker Cup at Lahinch

Great Britain and Ireland secured the 51st Walker Cup at Lahinch Golf Club, defeating the United States 13.5–12.5 in a historic comeback. This marks the first time GB&I has won the biennial amateur golf competition since 2015.

The match saw dramatic shifts in momentum. After a strong opening day left GB&I with a narrow lead, the United States dominated the Sunday morning foursomes, sweeping all four matches to take a commanding 9.5–6.5 lead heading into the final session.

However, GB&I staged the largest comeback in the tournament's history during the afternoon singles. Led by captain Dean Robertson, the home side won seven of the ten singles matches. Key performances included Jack Whaley’s 8&7 victory and Stuart Grehan’s win over world number one amateur Preston Stout. The victory was finalized by 22-year-old Josh Hill, who secured the winning point on the 18th hole with a birdie putt against Tyler Watts.

The win ends a five-tournament winning streak for the United States and marks the tenth overall victory for Great Britain and Ireland.
