Great Britain to allow plug-in solar systems via household sockets

New regulations in Great Britain will allow compliant plug-in solar systems to be connected to household sockets starting August 27. This technology enables users to mount solar panels outside and connect them to the home's electrical system via a micro-inverter and a standard socket, rather than requiring a full rooftop installation.

While the systems are limited to 800 watts of AC output—insufficient to power an entire home—they can reduce grid reliance by powering specific appliances like refrigerators, computers, and routers during daylight hours. The British government has been collaborating with major retailers, including Lidl, Amazon, and Asda, to bring these products to the mainstream, though specific availability and pricing at retail locations have not yet been confirmed by all partners.
