Great British Energy CEO defends Aberdeen job creation targets

Great British Energy CEO Dan McGrail has defended the state-owned firm’s job creation record following scrutiny over the scale of employment at its new Aberdeen headquarters. Speaking from the offices recently opened by King Charles III, McGrail stated the company is currently recruiting approximately “two people a week” and expects the Aberdeen workforce to reach around 300 staff by the middle of next year.

While Chairman Juergen Maier previously suggested the headquarters could eventually employ up to 1,000 people over several decades, McGrail clarified the current strategic workforce plan focuses on the 300-person target for the Aberdeen base.

Beyond direct employment, McGrail emphasized the company’s broader economic goals. He stated that GB Energy aims to “crowd in £15 billion of additional investment” to deliver 15 gigawatts of electricity. This activity is projected to support the creation of 10,000 additional jobs across the UK, with the “huge majority” expected to be located in Scotland.
