Great British Energy invests £8.9m in Naked Energy to expand UK solar‑thermal production
Great British Energy, the state‑backed UK clean‑energy investor, led an £8.875 million funding round for solar‑thermal firm Naked Energy, contributing £7.5 million alongside co‑investor Barclays Climate Ventures. The round marks GBE’s first major investment in the solar sector and is part of the government’s £8.3 billion plan to boost home‑grown clean power by 2030.
Naked Energy will use the capital to build a new manufacturing facility in the United Kingdom, creating up to 40 direct jobs and around 100 indirect jobs. The company’s flat‑panel solar‑thermal technology, already installed at sites such as the British Library and Wimbledon’s All England Lawn Tennis Club, generates heat and electricity to reduce gas consumption. The investment is intended to strengthen UK energy security, develop a domestic renewable‑heat supply chain and open export opportunities.
The funding round underscores the broader strategy of Great British Energy to unlock private capital for low‑carbon projects across the country, from offshore wind farms to small‑scale local facilities.
