Great Colorado Capsule project begins statewide tour

The Great Colorado Capsule, the largest time capsule project in the state’s history, is touring Colorado to collect items for the state’s 150th and the nation’s 250th anniversaries. The project seeks to create a shared historical snapshot of life in 2026 by inviting residents to contribute personal and community artifacts.

One stop on the statewide tour includes the Glenwood Springs Community Center. Local organizers aim to include memorabilia such as chamber documents, travel guides, and staff photographs to represent the region.

Organized by Visit Loveland and the City of Loveland, the capsule will eventually be buried at The Ranch Events Complex in Loveland. It is scheduled to remain underground until Colorado’s bicentennial in 2076. Submissions are restricted to items such as letters, photographs, and small keepsakes, with a maximum size of 12 by 12 by 12 inches. Organic materials, liquids, and food are prohibited to ensure long-term preservation.
