Great North Run expects record 63,000 runners and favorable weather

The 45th edition of the Great North Run is expected to be the largest in the event's history, with 63,000 runners participating in the 13.1-mile course from Newcastle to South Shields. The event is also anticipated to draw over 200,000 spectators.

Weather forecasts from the Met Office suggest favorable conditions for the race on Sunday, September 13. Temperatures are expected to range between 17C and 19C with mostly cloudy skies and low rain risk. While the Newcastle and Gateshead sections may be sheltered, runners should prepare for cooler, windier conditions as they approach the South Shields seafront finish.

In the men's race, Alex Mutiso seeks to defend his title against competitors including Casey Clinger, Zouhair Talbi, and Abdi Nageeye. In the women's race, Sheila Chepkirui returns to defend her title against Brigid Kosgei and Eilish McColgan. The event will be broadcast on BBC iPlayer in the United Kingdom.
