Great Offensive: The 1922 military campaign led by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk

The Great Offensive, a pivotal military campaign in the Turkish War of Independence, began on August 26, 1922, with the command issued by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk from Kocatepe. The operation commenced at 04:30 with artillery fire, followed by infantry advances toward strategic points such as Tınaztepe, Belentepe, and Kalecik-Sivrisi.

Over the course of several days, the Turkish army successfully broke through Greek defensive lines. By August 27, the offensive had captured Afyonkarahisar, leading to the relocation of the Supreme Command and Western Front Headquarters. The campaign culminated on August 30, 1922, in the Battle of Dumlupınar, where significant portions of the Greek forces were either destroyed or taken prisoner, ultimately clearing the path toward İzmir.
