Great Wall Motors' Wey V8X electric SUV slated for Australian launch

Great Wall Motors (GWM) has unveiled the Wey V8X, a new five‑seat, fully electric luxury SUV under its Wey sub‑brand. The model was disclosed through Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology filings, showing a dual‑motor all‑wheel‑drive powertrain that delivers a combined 540 kW (220 kW front, 320 kW rear). At roughly 5,000 mm in length, the V8X is slightly shorter than the V9X flagship but shares a similar wheelbase and high‑tech interior, including a 29‑inch augmented‑reality head‑up display, multiple touchscreens and a premium sound system.

GWM confirmed that the Wey brand will enter the Australian market in mid‑2026, expanding its premium‑vehicle strategy in the region. While the company has not detailed which Wey models will be offered, the V8X is expected to join the lineup alongside the V9X, Gaoshan people‑mover and other SUVs. The launch adds to a growing presence of Chinese premium automotive brands in Australia, such as Zeekr, Avatr and Hongqi.
