China Great Wall Museum reopens in Beijing after renovation

The China Great Wall Museum has officially reopened to the public in the Yanqing District of Beijing following an extensive renovation and upgrade process. Located at the foot of the famous Badaling section, the museum had been closed since April 2022 to undergo redevelopment.

The 16,000-square-meter facility features a new architectural design intended to integrate seamlessly with the surrounding mountains and vegetation. The museum includes exhibition areas, educational spaces, public service areas, research rooms, and collection storage.

The permanent exhibition showcases more than 700 cultural relics, many of which are on loan from various museums across China. These displays trace the 2,000-year history of the Great Wall's construction and the evolution of its preservation methods. Additionally, the museum highlights the structure's historical role as a site for ethnic integration and exchange beyond its military defense functions. Visitors can view the Badaling section through large glass curtain walls on the second floor.
