Great white shark breaches near Newport Beach, California

On July 25, a great white shark leapt out of the water just yards behind a boogie boarder at Newport Beach, Orange County, California. The incident was captured on video by Soaren Stevenson, a California‑based college ministry leader, who later shared the footage.

Marine biologists, including Christopher Lowe of the California State University Long Beach Shark Lab, identified the animal as a juvenile great white. They suggested the breach could be a behavior to dislodge parasites or a response to El Niño‑related warmer waters that have drawn more sharks toward the California coast.
