Great white shark encounters reported in California and Massachusetts
A great white shark was captured on film breaching the water at Marina State Beach in California. The incident occurred while a group of women were taking photographs, resulting in a rare action shot of the predator. Following the sighting, authorities issued shark advisory signs along portions of the Monterey Bay coastline, noting that the animal may be a shark previously observed in the area.
In Massachusetts, Christopher Stefanou, known as the ‘Long Island Shark Man,’ is facing animal cruelty charges. The charges stem from an incident last year where he allegedly dragged a great white shark onto a beach on Cape Cod. While Stefanou has previously worked with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration on tagging efforts, he is now accused of violating protections for the species, which has been federally protected in the Atlantic Ocean since 1997.
