Greater Chennai Corporation rolls out teacher gender‑club training and a ₹500 cr infrastructure programme
The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) launched a two‑day capacity‑building programme for teachers of 211 corporation schools to coordinate Gender Clubs. The training, inaugurated by GCC Commissioner G. S. Sameeran, covers gender equality, child rights, school safety, bullying prevention, online safety, adolescent mental health and gender‑sensitive teaching methods, aiming to create inclusive and safe learning environments.
In a separate announcement, GCC disclosed a ₹500 crore investment under the Chief Minister’s Integrated Urban Development Mission to upgrade civic infrastructure in North Chennai and several resettlement colonies. The plan includes new roads, footpaths, pedestrian plazas, smart parking facilities and people‑friendly streets, with ₹350 crore allocated for the current fiscal year and ₹150 crore for the next. Additional projects such as a proposed flyover and smart‑parking sites are also outlined.
