Greater Chennai Corporation urges property tax payment by Sept 30

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has issued an appeal to property owners to settle all outstanding and current property tax dues by September 30. The corporation is seeking to recover a total of 847.80 crore rupees to address its growing financial responsibilities.

According to GCC data, out of 1,415,771 assessed properties in the city, 812,539 owners have cleared their dues. However, 603,232 property owners have yet to make payments, covering both previous arrears and the current assessment period. The corporation faces a total liability of 3,434.72 crore rupees for the 2026-27 financial year.

GCC Commissioner GS Samiran emphasized that timely tax collection is essential to fund critical public services, including sanitation, road construction, rainwater drainage systems, and street lighting. To facilitate payments, the GCC has provided digital options such as its official website, mobile app, WhatsApp payment links, QR codes on tax receipts, and a WhatsApp chatbot.
