Greater Copenhagen Light Rail reaches full operation

The Greater Copenhagen Light Rail has reached full operational status, completing its 28-kilometer route between Ishøj in the southwest and Lundtofte in the north. The network includes 29 stations along Ring 3, connecting eight municipalities and providing access to hospitals, educational institutions, and major transport hubs.

Siemens Mobility and Aarsleff Rail were responsible for the project's completion. Siemens Mobility supplied 29 Avenio trams and managed electrification, signaling, communication technology, and system integration. The Avenio trams can carry up to 260 passengers and reach speeds of 70 km/h.

On its inauguration day, approximately 50,000 people utilized the service, which was offered for free to celebrate the opening. During a transition phase, trams are scheduled to run every five to eight minutes during peak daytime hours, with ten-minute intervals in the evenings and on Sundays. Siemens Mobility expects the line to carry roughly 12,000 passengers daily, with projections reaching 14 million passengers annually by 2030.
