Greater Manchester Police officer charged with rape and kidnap

Mohammad Hassan, a 23-year-old student police officer with the Greater Manchester Police (GMP), has been charged with six offences following an incident on Saturday. The charges include oral rape, kidnap, strangulation, sexual assault, phone theft, and dangerous driving.

The arrest occurred in West Yorkshire following a police pursuit on the M62. The incident was initiated by a 999 call in which a woman could be heard in distress inside a vehicle. Hassan, who was off-duty and driving his own car at the time, has been suspended from the force and remanded in custody.

Assistant Chief Constable Mark Dexter described the incident as “deeply concerning and disturbing,” stating that the victim is receiving specialist support. The GMP's Professional Standards Directorate conducted an initial review and found that Hassan's vetting had been completed without prior cause for concern. The matter has also been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
