Greater Manchester properties targeted in anti-HMO attacks
A series of criminal attacks targeting suspected houses of multiple occupancy (HMOs) has been reported across Greater Manchester, including Tameside, Salford, and Stockport. Since October 5, Greater Manchester Police have received approximately 49 reports of criminal damage.
Incidents involve smashed windows and doors, as well as graffiti such as ‘NO HMOS’ and ‘Stop the Boats’. In one Denton property, a swastika was spray-painted on a door, and a pig's head was used in another attack.
Three men, aged 33, 39, and 46, have been arrested and bailed in connection with the vandalism. Detectives have suggested that young people may be being exploited by adults to carry out these acts.
Local political leaders from Labour, Reform UK, the Conservatives, and the Independent Group issued a joint statement condemning the violence and intimidation, asserting that such acts of criminality will not be tolerated and do not represent the values of the community.
