Greater Ontario Hockey League adopts Ontario Hockey League rules

The Greater Ontario Hockey League (GOHL) will implement most playing rules used by the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) starting next season. Changes include a two‑minute penalty for clearing the puck over the boards in the defensive zone and a rule allowing goals to count when the net is knocked off its pegs, subject to referee judgment. Full face masks remain mandatory and fighting still results in a game misconduct to preserve player safety.

GOHL General Manager Richard Santos of the Chatham Maroons said the alignment will help develop players for higher levels, stating, "It only makes sense that we start adopting the same type of rules." The league expects to finalize the rule set later this week.
