GRECA opposes proposed cash ban for courier deliveries in Greece

The Greek E-Commerce Association (GRECA) has expressed serious reservations regarding a proposed ban on cash payments for orders delivered via courier services. While the association acknowledges the importance of promoting electronic payments, increasing transaction transparency, and combating tax evasion, it warns that the proposed measure could create unfair competition.

GRECA argues that the regulation may lead to unequal treatment between physical and electronic commerce. Currently, physical stores generally allow cash transactions for amounts under 500 euros, whereas the proposed rule would implement a total ban on cash for e-commerce deliveries regardless of the transaction value. The association maintains that such a significant change to established e-commerce practices should not proceed without further documentation and substantive dialogue with market stakeholders.
