Grecia Quiroz demands FGR take over Carlos Manzo murder case
Grecia Quiroz, the municipal president of Uruapan and widow of former mayor Carlos Manzo, has formally requested that the Federal Attorney General's Office (FGR) take over the investigation into her husband's murder.
Appearing before the Chamber of Deputies alongside legislators from Movimiento Ciudadano and independent deputy Guadalupe Mendoza, Quiroz argued that the current investigation led by the Michoacán State Prosecutor's Office is insufficient, partial, and politically motivated. She directly appealed to President Claudia Sheinbaum and FGR head Ernestina Godoy to intervene, stating that the case requires total independence to uncover the intellectual authors of the crime committed on November 1, 2025.
Quiroz also reported being revictimized by state authorities, noting she has been denied full access to the investigation files and has faced political narratives intended to discredit her. Additionally, she stated she will only permit the handover of Carlos Manzo's mobile phone to state authorities if it is conducted under federal judicial control to protect constitutional privacy rights. While over 30 arrests have been made in connection with the homicide, the masterminds behind the attack remain unidentified.
