Uruapan Mayor Grecia Quiroz seeks FGR intervention in husband's murder case

Grecia Quiroz, the substitute mayor of Uruapan, Michoacán, has formally requested that the Fiscalía General de la República (FGR) take over the investigation into the murder of her husband, former mayor Carlos Manzo. Quiroz visited the FGR offices in Mexico City to submit her petition in her capacity as an indirect victim.

Quiroz argues that the local investigation conducted by the Michoacán state prosecutor's office has been marked by “great biases” and political interests. She contends that because organized crime is involved in the homicide, which occurred on November 1, 2025, the case falls under federal jurisdiction. She expressed a desire to prevent the investigation from being further politicized at the state level.

Additionally, Quiroz sought a meeting with President Claudia Sheinbaum to discuss security issues in Uruapan. She clarified that her request is institutional and not driven by political ambitions or potential candidacy for the Michoacán governorship in 2027, responding to the President's previous remarks regarding avoiding meetings with political aspirants.
