Greece addresses Aegean sovereignty and maritime economic policy

Discussions regarding Greek sovereignty in the Aegean Sea highlight a long-standing history of disputes. Since the Treaty of Lausanne in 1923, Turkey has periodically challenged Greek authority through various legal and political means, including the status of Imbros and Tenedos and the role of the Ecumenical Patriarch.

In a separate domestic context, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy Vasilis Kikilias addressed economic and security concerns. He defended the government's maritime fuel policies, stating they prevented billions in taxes that would have contributed to inflation. Kikilias also noted that Greek coast guards remain professional in managing migration and maritime borders amidst global geopolitical instability caused by conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.
