Greece adds 332,843 private‑sector jobs in first five months of 2026

Data from the ERGANI information system indicate that private‑sector employment in Greece registered a net increase of 332,843 jobs during the first five months of 2026, the highest Jan‑May performance since 2001. In May 2026, 368,429 hiring announcements were posted against 235,699 separations, yielding a positive balance of 132,730 positions. For the January‑May period, total hiring ads totaled 1,361,618 while separations reached 1,028,775, resulting in the overall net gain of 332,843 jobs. The May hiring surge was driven mainly by the hospitality and accommodation sectors, with retail ranking third. The separation figures include 96,616 voluntary quits and 139,083 contract terminations in May, and 416,563 voluntary quits and 612,212 contract terminations over the five‑month span.
