Greece adds first four firms to EU MiCA crypto register
Greece has recorded its first entries in the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) register. Four Greek firms—BCash, Xenios Blockchain Group, Capital Wallet Greece, and Piraeus Bank—have been officially added to the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) database.
Regulatory oversight in Greece is divided between two bodies: the Hellenic Capital Market Commission (HCMC) supervises BCash, Xenios Blockchain Group, and Capital Wallet Greece, while the Bank of Greece oversees Piraeus Bank. This structure follows MiCA guidelines, which allow member states to distribute regulatory responsibilities among multiple competent authorities.
The registration of these firms follows a period of transition, as the general MiCA transition period ended on July 1, 2026. The addition of these providers contributes to a total of 359 unique crypto-asset service providers currently listed on the ESMA register.
Previously, the cryptocurrency exchange Binance had sought a MiCA license through Greece but withdrew its application on June 24. This withdrawal occurred amid reports from The Wall Street Journal alleging that European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde intervened to block the application. The HCMC has denied reports that its officials made specific comments regarding the matter.
