Greece adopts AI-driven reforms in education and energy sectors

Greece and Italy have launched a joint working group on artificial intelligence in education. During a visit by Italian Education Minister Giuseppe Valditara, Greek Education Minister Sofia Zacharaki outlined plans to integrate AI tools into schools, enhance technical and vocational training, and better link curricula to labour‑market needs. The cooperation will feature exchanges of best practices, involvement of ministry experts and educators, and an emphasis that AI should support, not replace, teachers.

Separately, the European Commission presented a digital‑energy strategy that uses AI and the Internet of Things to optimise electricity networks, cut household bills and enable dynamic pricing. A key element is the EU‑wide rollout of smart meters, with Greece preparing massive installations by its power operator DEDDIE. The plan foresees €584 billion of investment by 2030, aiming to balance renewable generation, manage demand in real time and turn consumers into “prosumers”.
