Greece advances digital innovation and industrial output in 2026

The BEYOND 2026 technology and innovation exhibition in Athens served as a focal point for Greece’s digital transition. Regional officials, including Central Macedonia’s Deputy Governor for Digital Governance Nikos Zolla, emphasized building partnerships with major technology firms to position the country as a Southeast European tech hub. Microsoft’s Katina Sourouni highlighted skill‑development investments, while industry leaders stressed the need for digital tools to support small and medium‑size enterprises.

At the same time, the Greek industrial sector reported strong growth in 2026. Production rose by 2.1% year‑over‑year, outpacing the EU average, and industrial employment reached 440,000, a 5.2% increase. Exports of industrial goods grew 5.5% to €2.9 billion, led by aluminum and pharmaceuticals, although the trade deficit widened. The industry faces challenges from higher borrowing costs, rising energy prices and inflationary pressure on inputs.
