Greece advances water utility mergers and restructuring
Greece is advancing a restructuring plan for its water supply sector. The Ministry of Environment and Energy, RAAEEV, EYDAP, and EYATH are working simultaneously to implement a new institutional framework. This plan aims to expand the geographic jurisdiction of the two major water companies and gradually integrate municipal services and local water organizations into the new scheme.
A key upcoming milestone is expected by the end of September, when RAAEEV is slated to release a methodology to assess the financial, operational, and technical status of the entities involved. This assessment will evaluate infrastructure, networks, and investment needs. Additionally, a ministerial decision from the Ministry of Environment and Energy is expected to finalize the framework, facilitating the transfer of assets, liabilities, personnel, and the creation of regional investment plans.
