Greece agricultural sector reports 188 deaths since 2022
An independent study by the Federation of Technical Enterprise Employees Associations (OSETEE) reveals that 188 people have died in the agricultural sector in Greece between 2022 and 2026.
In 2026, 26 deaths have been recorded so far, with 19 resulting from tractor rollovers. Andreas Stoimenidis, president of OSETEE, noted that these fatalities represent an under-studied issue in the country. He highlighted that tractor rollovers are frequently misclassified as standard traffic accidents, which complicates the investigation into their causes and their connection to occupational safety.
Annual death tolls reported by the study include 32 in 2022, 44 in 2023, 38 in 2024, and 48 in 2025. Beyond machinery accidents, the data includes deaths involving land workers, forest workers, and livestock farmers. Thessaly and Crete were identified as regions with the highest number of incidents.
