Greece airport arrivals show mixed trends in 2026

International arrivals at major Greek airports saw a mixed performance during the first eight months of 2026. According to data from the Institute of the Greek Tourism Enterprises (INSETE), total international arrivals at the country's primary airports reached 20.6 million, representing a 3.4% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

However, specific key locations experienced declines. Athens International Airport recorded 5.9 million arrivals for the eight-month period, a 1.4% decrease from 2025. August marked the fifth consecutive month of declining international arrivals at Athens, with August figures dropping 4.2% compared to the previous year. This trend is noted as reflecting the impact of the geopolitical crisis in the Middle East.

Other airports also reported decreases in international arrivals for the January-August period, including Kos (-0.7%), Kavala (-4%), and Mytilene (-6.3%).
