Greece airport passenger traffic rises in first seven months of 2026

Passenger traffic at Greek airports saw significant growth during the first seven months of 2026. Total passenger numbers across the country's 39 commercial airports rose by 4.9%, reaching approximately 46.96 million compared to 44.75 million in the same period of 2025.

Air traffic management by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (YPA) covered 24 airports, which recorded a 5.1% increase in passengers, totaling nearly 7 million. Heraklion Airport remained a major hub, serving 1.75 million travelers in July alone, a 3.3% increase from the previous year. Other notable mentions include Alexandroupolis's Dimokritos Airport, which was included in the list of growing YPA airports.

Fraport Greece, which manages several major airports, reported a 5.4% increase in passenger traffic, with over 20 million travelers passing through its facilities between January and July 2026. International traffic at these airports rose by 5.2%, while domestic traffic increased by 6.7%.

Specific regional growth was noted at several locations: Corfu saw the largest absolute increase in international passengers with 67,000 more travelers, followed by Rhodes and Thessaloniki. SkiaThos recorded the highest percentage increase among specific Fraport airports at 12.6%. Additionally, traffic from the Middle East market saw a substantial year-on-year increase of 26.7%.
