Greece allocates 140 million euros for water management via ESPA

Greece has reissued a call for funding under the ‘Environment and Climate Change’ program of the ESPA 2021-2027 framework. Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance Nikos Papathanasis announced a 140 million euro budget dedicated to holistic water and urban wastewater management.

The funding targets several entities, including EYDAP S.A., the Municipality of Kassandra, and the Decentralized Administrations of Rethymno, Corinth, and Alexandroupolis. Pilot projects will focus on the Evros/Alexandroupolis wetland, the Corinthian/Saronic Gulf, Kassandra in Chalkidiki, and Rethymno. These interventions aim to address water needs, wastewater reuse, digitalization, and energy efficiency.

Separately, contracting organizations are calling for government intervention regarding ESPA-funded public works. Professional associations, including PEDMEDE, PESEDE, and SATE, have requested clarification from the Ministry on how price revisions are calculated. They argue that inconsistent practices regarding whether revisions count toward the 50% contract modification limit are causing delays in project approvals and credits.
